The Keyword Bucket Types
The purpose of this exercise was to learn about the different major buckets of keywords in each of the 3 titles, and to pick 1500-2000 keywords for each title to fit into these buckets.
A few notes about these buckets:
- Keyword buckets don't describe where an article lives in a site, but the general type of article strategy represented by the keyword.
- There will be many misses on how I labeled keywords.
- There will be many misses on my keyword choices.
- My choices came from about 20,000 keywords, narrowed down froom keywords that your sites and your competitors rank for.
- We can add and refine keywords over time, or engage in a a more specific keyword project any time.
- Often, a single article ranks for dozens of keyphrases
Home Keyphrases
Keyphrases I associated with the home page.
Basics
Keyphrases that cover an evergreen, longform answer or 101 type subject for your niche. Often, this bucket has a lot of crossover with the 'how to' keywords.
Roundups
"Best Widgets for Running"
"Best Widgets of 2020"
"Best Widgets for my Contraindication"
Brand Roundups
"best nike shoes for triathlons"
"best salomon trail runners"
Events
"Portland Marathon"
Workout Roundup
"best dumbbell exercises for runners"
How To
Search queries that specifically ask to do something specific to your niche.
"How to Tie shoes for a triathlon"
Gear Type
Similar to roundups, except a different intent with the query. A Gear Type is: "Men's Running Shorts" or "fitness apps for runners". While there is crossover between these two, the absense of 'best' or 'top' could suggest a different page type or even subcategory/tertiary page.
Trip Roundup
"Running Trails in Denver"
